UAH 290 million in damages to the environment: the director of the company will be tried in Dnipro for illegal extraction and sale of sand
05.02.2026
From 2021 to 2023, the director of the enterprise, under the pretext of "arranging a pond" on his own land in the Dnipro district, extracted over 13,000 cubic meters of sand.
The illegal extraction of sand was carried out by the accused without any permits, and it was sold through controlled enterprises that dealt in construction materials.
As a result of the illegal actions, the environment suffered damage amounting to 290 million UAH.
In August 2025, the man was notified of suspicion, and a seizure was placed on the land plot.
It should be noted that according to current legislation, the extraction of mineral resources is only possible with the appropriate permit for subsoil use from the authorized state body.
Prosecutors of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office sent an indictment to the court against the director of the enterprise for the illegal extraction of mineral resources on a large scale and the legalization (laundering) of property obtained through criminal means (Part 1 of Article 209, Part 2 of Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the Dnipropetrovsk region with operational support from the Department of Strategic Investigations of the National Police of Ukraine.
Illegal use of subsoil causes millions and billions in losses to the state and irreparable harm to nature. This case is another confirmation of the systematic work of the prosecutor's office in the field of environmental protection.
Since the beginning of the year, a suspected official of the enterprise has already been reported for the illegal extraction of underground mineral waters with losses exceeding 2 billion UAH (Part 3 of Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The prosecutor's office will continue to take all legal measures to stop the illegal use of subsoil and protect the ecological interests of the state.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
