The Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office, together with law enforcement agencies, has exposed the deputy of one of the city mayors who provided an unlawful benefit to the head of one of the departments of the National Police in Cherkasy region for making a decision to close a criminal proceeding in which he is a suspect.

The man was detained while handing over 5,000 US dollars to a police officer.

Within the framework of this criminal proceeding, it has been established that the suspect, holding the position of director of a municipal enterprise of the city council, systematically allowed the placement of solid household waste outside the landfill – on an adjacent land plot of over 4.5 hectares from 2020 to 2025.

As a result of these actions, land pollution and contamination occurred, creating a danger to the environment. According to the conclusion of the engineering and ecological expertise, the state suffered material damage amounting to over 6 million UAH.

The official has been notified of suspicion of providing unlawful benefits, land pollution, and official negligence that caused severe consequences (Part 1 of Article 239, Part 2 of Article 367, Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Currently, a preventive measure has been chosen for the suspect.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
