8.4 million UAH in losses during the repair of a state road in Transcarpathia – prosecutors established the involvement of a district council deputy

In the scheme of embezzlement of over 8.4 million UAH allocated for the repair of the state road R-21 "Dolyna – Khust," the head of the Transcarpathian regional prosecutor's office reported suspicion against the engineer in charge of technical supervision, who is a current deputy of the Mizhhiria District Council.

According to the investigation materials, the suspect, who at that time was appointed responsible for conducting technical supervision of the current repair of the state road, signed and approved fourteen acts of acceptance of completed construction works with false data. This served as the basis for transferring funds to the contractor for works that were not actually performed.

The deputy is charged with improper performance of official duties due to a negligent attitude towards them, which caused severe consequences for the legally protected interests of the state (part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being resolved. The prosecution will petition for his house arrest.

Under the procedural guidance of the Transcarpathian regional prosecutor's office, the pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is being conducted by investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Transcarpathian region with operational support from the regional SBU office.

Additionally, we inform that the indictment against the former director of the contracting organization has been sent to the court by the prosecutor for substantive consideration.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
