Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a lawyer and her accomplice – the head of a department in one of the city councils of Lviv region – have been notified of suspicion for demanding and receiving an unlawful benefit of 6,700 US dollars from a citizen in collusion.

According to the investigation, the lawyer provided legal assistance to a man in a case regarding the determination of the residence of his minor daughter. Aware of the complexity of the situation, she made an unlawful demand for payment to influence local government officials to issue a report on the child's living conditions. She also demanded payment for influencing a judge of the city district court of Lviv region to obtain the necessary decision for her client.

To implement the criminal plan, the lawyer involved her accomplice – an official of the local city council. Together, they demanded 6,700 US dollars and received the money in installments.

In addition, the lawyer organized a fictitious registration of the residence of the client's ex-wife so that the case would be heard in the desired court. For this, she received an additional 200 US dollars.

The actions of the suspects have been qualified under Part 2 of Article 28, Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (receiving unlawful benefits for influencing the decision-making of persons authorized to perform state and local government functions, committed in collusion by a group of persons, combined with extortion of such benefits).

The lawyer has been chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention with the right to bail. Her accomplice has been placed under round-the-clock house arrest. The court took into account that the man cares for his father with a Group I disability.

The pre-trial investigation, under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, is being conducted by investigators of the investigative department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv region.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
