27.06.2025
Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office have submitted an indictment to the court against a resident of Bukovina for committing a traffic accident while under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the death of a passenger (Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that in June 2021, in the village of Molnytsia, Chernivtsi district, the accused, while driving a technically faulty motorcycle under the influence of alcohol, violated traffic rules. He entered the oncoming lane, where he collided with a passenger car. As a result of the accident, a 40-year-old passenger of the motorcycle died.
After committing the crime, the motorcyclist left the territory of Ukraine and hid abroad for over two years.
Thanks to the effective cooperation of Ukrainian prosecutors with foreign partners, the man's whereabouts were established. In May 2025, based on a request from the Ukrainian prosecutor's office, the competent authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany handed him over to the Ukrainian side.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in Chernivtsi region.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
