A saboteur who set fire to a cable cabinet and was preparing to blow up a bridge was sentenced to 15 years in prison

Under public prosecution by the Deputy Head of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office, the court found a 25-year-old resident of Smila guilty of sabotage activities, illegal handling, and manufacturing of explosive substances (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 113; Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 263; Part 2 of Article 263-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

It was proven that the convicted individual, carrying out a task from an unidentified person for monetary reward, set fire to a cable cabinet at a critical infrastructure facility of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" in the Cherkasy region at the beginning of January 2025. The fire damaged equipment, causing disruptions in railway logistics.

Subsequently, the man received instructions to manufacture explosive substances and place them under a bridge in the city of Smila. Law enforcement officers detained him after he planted about 4 kg of explosives under a concrete bridge.

During the court proceedings, the convicted individual was in custody.

The collection of evidence in the criminal proceedings was carried out by prosecutors of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office in cooperation with employees of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Cherkasy region.
