With the support of the public prosecution by the prosecutors of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office, the court found a 22-year-old resident of Odesa guilty of obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, as well as intentional destruction and damage to property (Part 1 of Article 114-1, Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment.
Prosecutors proved in court that the convicted individual established contact via Telegram with a representative of the aggressor state, who offered to "earn extra money" by setting fire to vehicles belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine or bearing the symbols of military formations.
Agreeing to cooperate, the perpetrator acted according to a well-rehearsed scheme. He would find vehicles in the city, photograph them for confirmation, after which he would receive "permission" to set them on fire. He then doused the cars with an incendiary mixture, set them on fire, and recorded it on video. The obtained recordings were sent to the client as "reports" for payment.
As a result of the arsonist's criminal actions, 3 vehicles used by Ukrainian defenders were destroyed. The total amount of damages exceeded half a million hryvnias.
Law enforcement detained the suspect in September 2024. He awaited the court's verdict in custody. During the court hearing, the accused fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse.
The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region.
