The head of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, Amil Omarov, supported the public prosecution and proved in court the guilt of a 41-year-old man in committing a number of crimes against sexual freedom and sexual inviolability (part 2 of Article 156 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as amended on 25.09.2008, part 2 of Article 156 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as amended on 14.03.2018, part 3 of Article 153 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as amended on 01.06.2010, part 4 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as amended on 06.12.2017, part 6 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as amended on 19.12.2019).
He was sentenced to life imprisonment with the deprivation of the right to hold positions related to the education and upbringing of children, or to engage in pedagogical and educational activities for a period of 3 years.
It was proven that in Kharkiv, from 2016 to 2020, the man systematically corrupted and raped his underage stepdaughter. More than 40 episodes of sexual acts committed by the convict against the victim were established.
In 2016, when the girl was only 8 years old, her stepfather committed lewd acts against her, and later — raped her.
In addition, he repeatedly threatened the stepdaughter to ensure she did not tell anyone anything.
The verdict was issued by the Kyiv District Court of Kharkiv. The period for filing an appeal is ongoing.
After the verdict comes into legal force, information about the convict will be included in the Unified Register of Persons Convicted of Crimes Against the Sexual Freedom and Sexual Inviolability of Minors.
Amil Omarov emphasized that the protection of children and childhood is the duty of the state, parents, and each of us. In the time of full-scale war, when Ukraine suffers daily from shelling and destruction, the primary task is to protect our future — the children.
“This case is a clear signal and an undeniable warning: crimes against children will not go unpunished. Where children have suffered, prosecutors will do everything possible to ensure that everyone guilty is held accountable,” emphasized the head of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
