The case of the suspect in the attempt to set fire to the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance has been sent to court

Under the procedural guidance of the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office, the pre-trial investigation has been completed, and an indictment has been sent to court against a 20-year-old resident of Vinnytsia on charges of treason and intentional destruction of property by arson (Part 2 of Article 111, Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The pre-trial investigation established that the young man was recruited in the fall of 2025 via “Telegram” by an employee of the 5th service of the FSB of the Russian Federation when he responded to one of the job advertisements for monetary reward. 

From his curator, the young man received the task to carry out a series of arsons in various regions of Ukraine. 

On October 20, he set fire to a car in Vinnytsia, sent a video to the customer, and received money. 

The very next day, the young man received a new task in Kyiv. He was preparing to set fire to the building of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory – a government institution that implements state policy in the field of national memory of the Ukrainian people.  

The perpetrator managed to hide 5 liters of gasoline in the courtyard of the institute, but was discovered and detained by law enforcement officers from Vinnytsia region. 

Currently, the accused is in custody. 

For the crimes charged, a penalty of up to 15 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment with confiscation of property is provided.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the SBU in Vinnytsia region with operational support from units of the SBU and the Main Directorate of the National Police in Vinnytsia region.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
