The case regarding the appropriation of over 1.7 million hryvnias, allocated for the rehabilitation of the military, was submitted to the court

An indictment has been sent to court against the director of a sanatorium in the village of Pyschyn, Kharkiv region. He is accused of embezzling budget funds allocated by the state for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian military personnel.

According to the investigation, in February 2023, the sanatorium signed a contract with the National Health Service of Ukraine for the provision of inpatient rehabilitation assistance. Under the program's conditions, payment for such services is made only if the patient stays in the facility for at least 14 days.

Despite this, throughout 2023 and at the beginning of 2024, false information was entered into the electronic health care system. The director of the sanatorium signed and submitted reports stating that over 100 servicemen allegedly underwent two-week rehabilitation, while in fact, they stayed in the facility for about seven days.

Based on these reports, the NHSU transferred funds for services that were not actually provided in full. As a result, the director of the sanatorium illegally received over 1.7 million UAH of budget funds, as confirmed by a forensic economic examination.

Prosecutors of the Kharkiv District Prosecutor's Office approved the indictment for the embezzlement of someone else's property through the abuse of official position, committed under martial law and in particularly large amounts (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 7 to 12 years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to 3 years and with confiscation of property.

The case will be heard by the Kharkiv District Court of Kharkiv region.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the SV VP No. 2 of the Kharkiv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kharkiv region.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
