The case against the parents, whose two-month-old boy died due to improper care, was sent to the court

Juvenile prosecutors of the Konotop District Prosecutor's Office have sent an indictment to the court regarding a 35-year-old man and his 31-year-old wife, whose gross failure to fulfill parental duties led to the death of their child (Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The couple welcomed a healthy baby boy on April 21, 2024. However, neither the mother nor the father provided the child with adequate nutrition. As a result, the child's body did not develop according to age, there was a developmental delay, and weight decreased.

When the boy fell ill, the parents did not seek medical help in a timely manner.

On July 15, 2024, the child died from a viral infection of unknown origin.

We remind you that the accused were informed of suspicion in August 2025 after receiving all necessary expert conclusions. According to experts, timely medical intervention and appropriate treatment could have halted the dystrophic changes in the body, improved the immune system's condition, and affected the severity of infectious diseases.

For their actions, they face up to 5 years of imprisonment.

The pre-trial investigation has been completed by the investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Sumy region under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office.
