Under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Volyn Regional Prosecutor's Office, a former director and a leading engineer of one of the forestry enterprises have been notified of suspicion. Their actions have been qualified as illegal logging and abuse of office (part 4 of article 246, part 2 of article 28, part 3 of article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the officials of the forestry enterprise obtained a logging ticket without receiving an environmental impact assessment, which is mandatory if the logging is not provided for in the basic forestry management materials. Based on this, the state enterprise conducted a clear-cutting operation of 409 trees in the Turiy Forestry area over an area of 2.3 hectares.

Such unlawful actions caused environmental damage amounting to over 3.2 million hryvnias.

Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspects is being resolved.

The pre-trial investigation and operational support in the criminal proceedings are carried out by the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigation located in Lviv.

Note: according to article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
