15.09.2026
The former mayor of Rakhiv, who was on the international wanted list for almost three years and was detained twice in the EU, was extradited to Ukraine. The court took him into custody, at the same time setting bail in the amount of about 333 thousand UAH. UAH. The prosecutor's office will appeal this decision in terms of the amount of bail, taking into account the suspect's previous evasion of justice.
On September 10, 2026, the man was handed over to the Ukrainian side at the Porubne international checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Romanian border. The extradition was ensured in cooperation with the Prosecutor General's Office, the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office and the competent authorities of Romania.
After the suspect was delivered to Ukraine, the court granted the request of the prosecutor's office and chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention. At the same time, the investigating judge identified an alternative - bail in the amount of about 333 thousand UAH. UAH.
The prosecutor's office considers this amount of bail insufficient and will appeal the decision.
According to the investigation, he was on the international wanted list for almost three years. At the end of 2025, he was detained in the Czech Republic and banned from leaving the country. Despite this, the man later ended up in Romania, where he was detained again. After completing the necessary procedures, he was extradited to Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the former mayor may be involved in overestimating the cost of work during the construction of a rehabilitation and health center.
According to the documents, the work was performed in full. At the same time, the examination showed a discrepancy between the actual volumes and cost of the work performed and the declared ones.
The ex-official was notified in absentia of suspicion of embezzlement of other people's property by abuse of office, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, as well as forgery (Part 4 of Article 191 and Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
