Luxury phones and perfumes disguised as sausages. Almost 17 million hryvnias worth of smuggling was exposed in Lviv region

According to the investigation, at the beginning of August this year, a resident of the Yavoriv district attempted to smuggle goods from Poland into Ukraine. In particular, premium phones from well-known brands and elite perfumes.

To avoid declaration and payment of customs duties, the man chose the "green corridor" when crossing the border.

The smuggled goods were hidden in the cargo compartment of a minibus in cardboard boxes that originally contained sausage products. To mask the boxes with the electronics and perfumes, they were placed under identical boxes, but with real meat products.

The hiding place was discovered by border guards during the inspection of the vehicle.

It turned out to contain over 400 mobile phones, nearly 3,500 bottles of perfumes from well-known brands and testers for them, as well as several units of small household appliances. Their estimated value is almost 17 million UAH.

Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the man has been notified of suspicion of smuggling (part 2 of Article 201-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The seized goods and the vehicle have been placed under arrest.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in the Lviv region, with operational support from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
