Tortured Ukrainian prisoners of war - prosecutors document another military crime of military Russian
29.08.2025
Prosecutors of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office have documented the fact of ill-treatment of prisoners of war by representatives of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
In August 2025, near the village of Myrolyubivka, Hrodivska Settlement Community, the occupiers captured a Ukrainian serviceman. He was taken to the basement of the seized house, where seven more defenders of Ukraine were held on their knees with their hands tied.
During interrogations, the Russian military tortured prisoners – inflicted serious bodily injuries on them, and cut off body parts. The injured Ukrainian defender's throat was cut. After that, the bodies of the prisoners were thrown into a pit and covered with garbage, believing that they had died from their injuries.
One of the prisoners of war survived. With his throat cut, he reached the Ukrainian positions within five days.
On the fact of committing a war crime, a pre-trial investigation has been launched under part 2 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder). Prosecutors interrogated the victim, all Russian servicemen involved in this crime are being identified.
The pre-trial investigation is conducted by investigators of the Main Department of the State Security Service of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Investigation of war crimes is one of the priorities in the activity of Prosecutor's Offices.
