Tortured and killed civilian during the occupation

Prosecutors of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office have notified a serviceman of the illegal armed formation "109 sp 1 ak DNR," a native of Makiivka in the Donetsk region, of suspicion in absentia. He is accused of treason, participation in illegal armed formations that led to the death of people, cruel treatment of civilians, and other violations of the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 111, Part 5 of Article 260, Part 2 of Article 28, Parts 1 and 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the suspect carried out combat missions in the Beryslav district of the Kherson region in 2022. As part of Russian armed formations, he guarded checkpoints, checked the documents of local residents, and participated in extrajudicial repressions: illegally imprisoning civilians, holding them in inhumane conditions without protection, forcing them to cooperate, and torturing them.

In early April 2022, at a checkpoint in the village of Vysokopillya, the suspect, along with two accomplices, detained a married couple and another civilian. One of them was immediately taken away in an unknown direction, while the couple was taken to a yard. There, the suspect brutally beat the man, threatening his wife with retribution if he did not confess to ties with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After the beating, he was placed in the trunk of a car and taken to an open area, where the suspect and his accomplices shot him with an automatic weapon.

Meanwhile, the wife was locked in the house under guard. After the murder, he returned to her and continued to threaten her, ignoring her pleas to inform her of her husband's fate, and only in the morning was the woman released.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kherson region with operational support from the Main Department of Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kherson region and the Main Directorate of the National Police in the region.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
