A preventive measure was chosen for the former mayor of Odesa - house arrest with the use of an electronic means of control

The former mayor of Odesa, who is suspected of official negligence that led to the deaths of nine people (part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), has been placed under round-the-clock house arrest with the use of an electronic monitoring device by the court at the request of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General.

It is worth noting that, according to the investigation, the suspect failed to ensure the proper functioning of the drainage and wastewater systems in the city, despite having information about their unsatisfactory condition. On the day of the emergency, there was no proper notification of the population or readiness of civil protection systems, which resulted in the deaths of nine people.

Within the same proceedings, eight other officials from the city council and municipal enterprises have also been notified of suspicion of official negligence. Preventive measures have also been chosen for them.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
