The former law enforcement officer in Bukovina is charged with an attempt to falsify the evidence in criminal proceedings

Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office, together with investigators from the State Bureau of Investigations, exposed a detective from the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in Chernivtsi region for falsifying evidence in a criminal proceeding.

He has currently been dismissed from the bodies of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, in June 2023, the law enforcement officer fabricated materials to artificially improve the crime detection statistics.

In particular, he attempted to illegally close a case regarding the circulation of excise goods by offering a citizen—a third party with no connection to the crime—to admit guilt. In "return," he promised monetary compensation and payment of a fine.

After reaching a "deal" with the formal figure in the case, the law enforcement officer prepared and submitted for approval to the prosecutor a notice of suspicion, which contained knowingly false information.

The illegal actions of the detective were previously documented within the framework of covert investigative (search) actions.

The former law enforcement officer has been notified of suspicion of attempting to involve a knowingly innocent person in criminal liability, forgery of official documents, and falsification of evidence (Part 3 of Article 15, Part 2 of Article 372, Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The procedural guidance is carried out by the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office, and the pre-trial investigation is conducted by investigators from the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations located in the city of Khmelnytskyi.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
