Contraband of luxury items worth more than 12 million hryvnias was confiscated into state property

Under the public prosecution of the prosecutors of the Office of the Attorney General, the court found two residents of Kyiv guilty of smuggling jewelry and Swiss watches in significant amounts (Part 2 of Article 201-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In court, the prosecutors proved that the men transported luxury items across the state border of Ukraine, namely expensive watches from well-known brands, pendants, bracelets, and other jewelry, with a total value of over 12 million hryvnias. To do this, they concealed the goods from customs control, attempting to avoid official declaration.

The court found both guilty. Considering their full admission of guilt, remorse, and cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced both convicted individuals to 5 years of imprisonment, from which they were released on probation for a period of 1 year and 6 months.

The convicted individuals are also prohibited from engaging in activities related to the movement of goods across the customs border for commercial purposes for one year.

All smuggled items valued at over 12 million hryvnias have been transferred to state ownership.

The verdict was issued by the Volodymyr City Court of the Volyn Region. The period for filing an appeal is ongoing.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings was conducted by detectives of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine.
