Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office (as a department) of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a suspicion has been announced against the acting director of the municipal enterprise of Drohobych.

The official is accused of polluting land with waste harmful to human life, health, or the environment, and of official negligence (part 1 of article 239, part 2 of article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, from March 2019 to August 2023, he, being responsible for waste management, allowed the repeated dumping of garbage by subordinate employees on a land plot not designated for this purpose.

This concerns a plot of 2 hectares, transferred for permanent use to the enterprise. Its intended purpose is the construction and maintenance of public service facilities, so the placement of solid household waste on it is prohibited.

As a result of the actions of the suspect, environmental damage has been caused – the land has been littered and polluted. The total amount of damages, according to calculations by the State Environmental Inspection of the region, amounts to nearly 19 million UAH.

Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved. Measures are also being taken to recover damages.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region, with operational support from the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region. 

Note: according to article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
