Massive Russian attack on Ukraine: at least 15 dead and more than 100 injured overnight

On the night of April 16, 2026, the armed forces of the Russian Federation launched a large-scale combined attack using various types of missiles and strike drones on the territory of Ukraine. Under enemy fire were Kyiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Kharkiv, and other regions.

As of 08:00, at least 15 people are known to have died and over 100 have been injured. The final number of casualties is being clarified.

Kyiv

In the capital, as a result of the combined attack, 4 people were killed, including a 12-year-old child. At least 54 people were injured, among them police officers, medical workers, and foreign citizens.

The most significant destruction occurred in the Podilskyi and Obolonskyi districts. 17 apartment buildings and 10 private houses were damaged, as well as a hotel, an office center, a car dealership, a gas station, and a shopping and entertainment center.

Odesa

At night, the enemy attacked Odesa twice - first with strike drones, and later with ballistic missiles.

As a result of the attacks, 8 people were killed, including women aged 20–56 and men aged 23–26. At least 19 people were injured, some of whom are in serious condition.

Port infrastructure, administrative buildings, dormitories of educational institutions, and residential buildings were damaged. A multi-story building was partially destroyed due to the missile strike.


Dnipro and the region

On the evening of April 15 and the night of April 16, the Russian troops carried out a combined missile-drone attack on Dnipro and the region.

In the city, 2 people were killed, and 27 were injured, including children. Additionally, in the evening, as a result of a drone attack, four people were injured, including two young children.

In the Nikopol district, a man was killed due to strikes from FPV drones, and three others were injured.

Civil infrastructure, educational institutions, a hospice, a dormitory, residential buildings, and vehicles were damaged.

Kharkiv

On the night of April 16, Russian military forces attacked Kharkiv with strike drones, presumably of the "Geran-2" type.

In the Nemishlianskyi district, a hit was recorded on the roadway, resulting in damage to residential buildings. At least two civilians were injured. In the Industrial district, a car caught fire as a result of the strike.

Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office in the relevant regions, pre-trial investigations have been initiated regarding the commission of war crimes as provided for in Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine and other law enforcement agencies. Currently, investigative actions are ongoing to document evidence, establish all circumstances of the crimes, and hold those responsible accountable.
