Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office have sent an indictment to the court against a former detective of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in the Chernivtsi region. He is accused of attempting to involve an obviously innocent person in criminal liability, forgery of official documents, and falsification of evidence (Part 3 of Article 15, Part 2 of Article 372, Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, in June 2023, the law enforcement officer fabricated materials for a criminal proceeding regarding the illegal storage of counterfeit excise goods by unidentified individuals.

To demonstrate "results of work" and improve statistical indicators of crime detection, he offered a third party, who had no connection to these events, to confess to committing a crime for a monetary reward.

After reaching an agreement, the detective prepared and submitted for approval to the prosecutor a notice of suspicion with false information.

The illegal actions of the official were pre-documented during the conduct of covert investigative (search) actions.

The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation located in the city of Khmelnytskyi.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
