Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office, together with the police, uncovered the deputy mayor of Sokyryany, who became an accomplice in a scheme for the illegal transportation of men abroad.

According to the investigation, the deputy mayor facilitated the illegal transportation of a conscripted resident of Khmelnytskyi to Moldova.

The organizer of the transportation was a 61-year-old resident of the same region. He found a person willing to pay 7 thousand US dollars for illegal border crossing. After receiving the money, the organizer transported the man by boat across the Dniester to the Chernivtsi region, where the official joined the crime.

In Novodnistrovsk, he met the conscript, conducted a briefing, transferred him to another vehicle, and accompanied him to the border village. There, he indicated the direction to the designated area outside the checkpoint and explained how to cross the border and reach the city of Oknitsa in Moldova.

However, the attempt was unsuccessful — the violator was detained by border guards.

The organizer and the official have been notified of suspicion. They are charged under Part 2 and Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The issue of choosing preventive measures is being resolved.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the Chernivtsi region with operational support from the 31st Border Detachment.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
