Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, detained two residents of Zastavna who set fire to relay and battery cabinets of "Ukrzaliznytsia".
They have been notified of suspicion of committing sabotage (part 2 of Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, a 24-year-old previously convicted resident of Bukovyna agreed to damage critical infrastructure for money in order to weaken the country's defense capabilities during the war. He received the order remotely and chose the target of the sabotage himself — a relay and battery cabinet on the railway section between Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil regions. To carry out the task, he involved a 33-year-old acquaintance.
The men arrived at the railway on a motorcycle, doused the equipment with fuel, and set it on fire. They recorded everything on video to report back to the clients.
The first fire did not completely destroy the cabinet, so the organizer repeated the attempt — this time with another accomplice, whose identity is currently being established by investigators.
The suspects were detained in accordance with Article 615 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. They have been chosen for non-alternative preventive measures in the form of detention.
For their actions, they face imprisonment from 15 years to life with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the SBU investigators in the Chernivtsi region.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
