07.08.2025
In February-September 2024, a man contacted a former employee of the "Berkut" special unit via Telegram, who, after the annexation of Crimea, accepted Russian citizenship and joined one of the ministries of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. During the correspondence, the resident agreed to share details regarding the presence of Ukrainian defenders in Sloviansk.
The results of his "reconnaissance operations" were sent by the agent in the form of texts and graphic images. The objects that most interested the enemy were found on "Google Maps," marked with red pins, and screenshots were taken. In this way, the suspect disclosed information about the concentration of personnel and equipment of the Defense Forces. To clarify some locations, the number of vehicles, and the timing of their movement, he sent voice messages to his interlocutor.
The individual was exposed by law enforcement, and under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, he was informed of suspicion of treason (part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Currently, the man is in custody. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
