In the Lviv region, the excander of the military unit is suspected of millions of losses during the purchase of army beds

Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Western region, a former commander of a military unit, who is currently the deputy head of the district military administration in Lviv region, has been notified of suspicion regarding the procurement of army beds at inflated prices.

The pre-trial investigation established that in May 2022, the commander signed a contract for the purchase of a thousand army beds at inflated prices. The total amount was 6.5 million UAH, although the cost of each bed set was almost 30% higher than the market price.

As a result, the state lost over 2.6 million UAH.

Moreover, this is not the first episode involving the suspect. Last year, he was charged with causing the state losses of over 37 million UAH during the procurement of tanks at inflated prices. The indictment in this case is already under consideration by the court.

The actions of the accused have been qualified as negligent attitude to service, which caused severe consequences in conditions of martial law (part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the incriminated article provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment.

The pre-trial investigation is conducted by the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations in Lviv, based on materials from the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
