Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a criminal scheme for the sale of the narcotic substance "methadone" has been dismantled at the State Institution "Drohobych Correctional Colony No. 40."
According to the investigation, one of the inmates was responsible for ordering, while another was directly selling the "product" among the prisoners. In turn, a junior inspector from the supervision and security department of the correctional colony picked up packages containing the narcotic, which was disguised in clothing, from the post office and handed them over to his "accomplices." The cost of one gram of methadone for "clients" in the closed territory was 2,400 UAH.
The colony employee was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine – after he smuggled the narcotic substance into the secured area of the facility.
During searches, law enforcement officers discovered and seized packages containing narcotics, mobile phones, handwritten notes, and other physical evidence.
The participants in the scheme have been notified of suspicion for the illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, mailing, and sale of narcotic substances, by a group of persons in prior conspiracy (Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Investigative actions are ongoing, and all involved persons are being identified.
The junior inspector has been placed under preventive detention with the right to bail.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations located in Lviv, with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region and the Lviv Department of the National Police of Ukraine, with the assistance of the operational department of the State Institution "Drohobych Correctional Colony No. 40."
