A customs officer was detained in Lviv Oblast

In Lviv region, an inspector of the "Krakovets" customs post of the Lviv customs has been exposed, who, according to the investigation, established a scheme for earning money through the illegal export of currency abroad.

The investigation believes that the customs officer, for money, ensured the unhindered exit to Poland with US dollars without mandatory declaration and without going through customs formalities.

For exporting up to 50 thousand US dollars, he charged 500 dollars. If the amount exceeded 50 thousand, the "tariff" increased to 1 thousand dollars.

The investigation documented that from February to the beginning of April this year, the inspector allowed 180 thousand US dollars to cross the border without declaration in three parts. In total, for this, he allegedly received 2,500 dollars in unlawful benefits - approximately 110 thousand hryvnias.

In fact, for an amount equivalent to 110 thousand hryvnias, nearly 8 million hryvnias were exported from the country.

The inspector was detained while receiving the last part of the "payment" - 1 thousand US dollars for another passage of undeclared currency. The detention was carried out in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the customs officer was informed of the suspicion of receiving unlawful benefits by a public official for actions using his official position, committed repeatedly (under part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved, as well as his suspension from office.

Investigative actions are ongoing. Law enforcement is identifying other individuals who may have been involved in this scheme.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Lviv region, with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region. The crime was uncovered jointly with the internal control department of the Lviv customs.

Recall that in Transcarpathia a customs officer was detained who organized a scheme for importing elite watches without paying customs duties. For the "unhindered" crossing of the border, he charged 5% of the value of the goods. The import of watches worth over 3.2 million hryvnias was documented, for which he received 3,850 dollars. He was detained on January 1, 2026, while receiving part of the money.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
