Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office, together with other law enforcement agencies, uncovered the embezzlement of budget funds allocated for the capital repair of the runway of the KP "Chernivtsi International Airport".

According to the investigation, the former head of the Housing and Communal Services Department of the Chernivtsi City Council and the former head of the technical supervision department for capital construction signed acceptance acts for the work performed by the contractor, knowing full well that the object was handed over with unfinished work, which was concealed in the report. As a result, over 3.3 million UAH was transferred from the budget on formal grounds.

The former officials have been notified of suspicion of embezzlement of budget funds in particularly large amounts (part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in the Chernivtsi region with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in the Chernivtsi region.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
