In Sumy Oblast, a serviceman will serve a sentence for treason

Under public prosecution by the prosecutors of the Sumy Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Central region, a serviceman has been found guilty of treason, acquisition, and storage of military ammunition and firearms without the required legal permission (Part 2 of Article 111, Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He has been sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

It has been established that the serviceman established contact with a representative of the Russian special services via the messenger "Telegram" and voluntarily entered into confidential cooperation with him.

Thus, in March 2025, while in the combat zone in the Sumy region, the convicted individual repeatedly transmitted military information to the enemy, including details about the overall situation in the area of combat operations, the deployment of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, thereby causing harm to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and defense capability of Ukraine.

In addition, during the pre-trial investigation, it was established that the serviceman illegally acquired and stored firearms and military ammunition at his place of residence without the required legal permission.

The court agreed with the position of the prosecution, taking into account the severity of the committed criminal offenses and all the circumstances of the case.

Until the sentence takes legal effect, he will remain in custody.

The pre-trial investigation and operational support were carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Sumy region.
