In Sumy region, a deputy of the forbidden party was convicted of, which fled to the Russian Federation and calls for capturing Ukrainian territories

Under the public prosecution of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, a 59-year-old man has been found guilty of encroaching on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine (Part 2 of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

By the court's verdict on September 3, 2025, he was sentenced in absentia to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The prosecutor proved in court that the accused was elected in 2020 as a deputy from the currently banned political party "Opposition Platform – For Life" to the Shostka City Council.

Since the beginning of the war in 2022, he illegally left for Russia, where he currently resides. While on enemy territory, the elected official began active anti-Ukrainian activities, spreading pro-Russian narratives in banned social networks.

In particular, he signed an appeal to the President of Russia, calling for the capture and cleansing of the Kharkiv region to push back the front and protect the Belgorod region from shelling.

According to the conclusions of the linguistic examination, the content created and disseminated by the fugitive contains calls to violate the territorial integrity of our state.

As the elected official is hiding from the investigation, he has been declared wanted.

The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Sumy region under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office.
