An employee of the forestry department of one of the Volyn branches of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" is suspected of official negligence, which caused damage to state interests amounting to 1.1 million hryvnias.

According to the investigation, the leading engineer of the forestry, by improperly performing his official duties, issued a logging ticket for the cutting of rare forest, which is not provided for by current Ukrainian legislation. As a result, he allowed the felling of 188 trees of poplar, oak, aspen, and pine in the territory of the Ustyluh Forestry.

The actions of the suspect have been qualified under part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Volyn Regional Prosecutor's Office, the pre-trial investigation and operational support in the criminal proceedings are being carried out by the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigation located in Lviv.

Currently, within the framework of the investigation, prosecutors are preparing a motion to the court for the selection of a preventive measure for the forester and for his suspension from office.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
