The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office has sent an indictment to the court against a Russian serviceman involved in the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
He is charged under Part 5 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 438, Part 2 of Article 28, and Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine as amended until October 24, 2024.
The accused is the commander of a grenade launcher platoon of the motorized rifle company of the 82nd motorized rifle regiment of the 69th motorized rifle division of the Russian Armed Forces, with the call sign "Altai." During the repeated invasion of the Kharkiv region, he, along with other Russian soldiers, occupied the territory of the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant.
On June 16, 2024, an unarmed Ukrainian serviceman found himself in the positions of Russian troops on the territory of the plant. The accused, along with other soldiers, interrogated him, passed the gathered information to the command, and received an order to kill the prisoner. He was executed. The accused provided cover for the actions of the executor of the murder of the Ukrainian serviceman.
Using the same scheme, he killed two more Ukrainian servicemen in July 2024.
On September 24, 2024, special units of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine captured Russian soldiers during the liberation of the territory of the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant, among whom was the accused. They were taken to one of the frontline settlements in the Kharkiv region, where prosecutors immediately conducted interrogations to document all the circumstances of the crimes and gather evidence. The pre-trial investigation was carried out by the Investigative Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region.
The accused is being held in a detention center. Prosecutors will insist in court on the imposition of the harshest punishment — life imprisonment.
