In Kharkiv region, an employee of the morgue was exposed, who appropriated the personal belongings of the dead soldiers

Prosecutors of the Kupiansk District Prosecutor's Office in the Kharkiv region have reported suspicion against a junior nurse of the Chuhuiv branch of the State Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination of Ukraine for repeated theft under martial law and for illegally seizing items that were on the bodies of the deceased for selfish motives (Part 4 of Article 185, Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation began after the wife of a deceased serviceman reported the disappearance of a ring after receiving her husband's body from the morgue.

During the investigation, it was established that the employee systematically stole personal belongings of fallen soldiers — mobile phones, jewelry, including rings and chains. Some jewelry items she forcibly removed using pliers. Subsequently, the valuables were pawned for cash.

During searches, law enforcement officers seized a significant amount of jewelry and receipts from pawnshops.

The investigation is ongoing: the involvement of the suspect in other episodes is being checked, and possible accomplices are being identified.

Prosecutors will petition the court for a preventive measure in the form of detention.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Kupiansk District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kharkiv region under the procedural guidance of the Kupiansk District Prosecutor's Office.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
