In the Kharkiv region the culprit of a deadly accident was sentenced to 10 years in prison

With the support of the public prosecution, prosecutors from the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office found a 41-year-old man guilty of violating traffic safety rules while under the influence of alcohol, which led to the death of two people, leaving individuals in a life-threatening condition without assistance, as well as willfully failing to comply with a court decision that had entered into legal force (part 4 of article 286-1, part 1 of article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

He was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment with a ban on driving vehicles for 10 years.

Prosecutors proved that in June 2024, on the Kharkiv highway near the village of Cherkaska Lozova, the man was driving a car while intoxicated and exceeded the permissible speed. He lost control: the car went off the road, overturning onto its roof.

Two passengers — a man and a woman — were injured. The driver, aware of their condition, did not call for medical help and left the scene of the incident. As a result, both victims died at the scene of the accident.

Earlier, in November 2023, the court had already deprived the man of his right to drive vehicles for one year, but he deliberately ignored the decision and got behind the wheel again.

During the court proceedings, the man partially admitted his guilt, adding that the accident allegedly occurred due to the actions of the female passenger, who interfered with his ability to drive the car.

The guilty verdict was issued by the Kyiv District Court of Kharkiv. The period for filing an appeal is ongoing.
