A resident of Khmelnytskyi and his accomplice have been notified of suspicion for extorting someone else's property with threats of violence, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy under martial law (part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Their involvement in another crime – illegal deprivation of liberty of a person (Article 146 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) – is also being investigated.
The suspects forced a man to return 100 thousand US dollars of a non-existent debt. To this end, they repeatedly threatened the victim with physical harm.
Law enforcement officers detained one of the accomplices while he was receiving part of this amount.
At the request of the prosecutor's office, both suspects have been taken into custody without the right to bail.
Under the procedural guidance of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor's Office, the pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings is being conducted by investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Khmelnytskyi region with operational support from the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
