In Khmelnytskyi border guards, which demanded $ 5.5 thousand for the transfer of a serviceman from the combat area

Under the procedural guidance of the Khmelnytsky Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Western region, a corruption scheme for transferring a military personnel from Eastern Ukraine to a rear unit has been documented.

According to the investigation, a border service inspector who was serving in the Sumy region attempted to transfer to one of the rear units due to health reasons. Despite multiple reports, no decision was made.

The serviceman was advised to contact a colonel of the State Border Guard Service, who had studied at a military university. He promised to assist with the transfer but demanded 5,500 US dollars in return.

The military personnel reluctantly agreed but immediately informed law enforcement. To receive the money, the colonel involved a mediator who was in the combat zone. The funds were to be temporarily held until the transfer procedure began.

After receiving the entire amount of illegal benefit, both border guards were detained. They were informed of suspicion of receiving illegal benefits for influencing a decision by a public official, combined with extortion and committed by a group of persons in conspiracy (part 2 of article 28, part 3 of article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

At the request of the prosecutors, the court chose a preventive measure for the suspects in the form of detention with the alternative of bail. Currently, the involvement of other individuals in the crime is being investigated.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Khmelnytsky based on materials from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Note: according to part one of article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
