In Transcarpathia, the prosecutor's office demands in court to oblige SE "Forests of Ukraine" to establish a security status for 527 hectares of forests

Prosecutors are initiating through the court the establishment of important protection for primeval forests - unique natural treasures of the Carpathians, which are rare enclaves of untouched nature.

The Tiachiv District Prosecutor's Office has appealed to the Transcarpathian District Administrative Court with claims to recognize the unlawful inaction of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" represented by the "Carpathian Forest Office" branch and to obligate them to carry out work to delineate the boundaries of primeval nature monuments of local significance on the ground.

This concerns objects of the nature reserve fund covering more than 527 hectares – "Primeval Forests of the Plai Forestry" (161.7 ha), "Primeval Forests of the Neresnytsia Forestry" (128.7 ha), "Primeval Forests of the Turbat Forestry" (136.8 ha), and "Primeval Forests and Quasi-Primeval Forest of the Lopuhiiv Forestry" (100 ha).

The absence of land management projects and established boundaries makes it impossible to ensure proper protection of natural territories and creates risks for the preservation of unique primeval forest ecosystems. Therefore, prosecutors in court demand to recognize the inaction of the branch of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" as unlawful and to obligate them to carry out work to delineate the boundaries of primeval nature monuments of local significance on the ground.

The claims filed by the prosecutor in the interests of the state represented by the State Ecological Inspection of the Transcarpathian Region have been accepted for consideration by the Transcarpathian District Administrative Court.

For reference:

Primeval forests are primary, untouched areas of forest that are of significant age and have never been subjected to human intervention. Such forests often contain many layers of vegetation, representing different species of trees and trees of various ages.

Clearly defining the boundaries of primeval forests allows for the official recognition of these areas as being under special protection and prevents any logging, construction, or other types of economic activity that could disrupt the natural balance.
