In Transcarpathia, a stepfather and a mother who systematically raped a minor child were convicted
18.12.2025
The prosecution fully proved the guilt of the stepfather and the mother, who had been committing sexual violence against the child for a long time. In addition, the mother periodically recorded this on video. The man was sentenced to life imprisonment, while the mother received a punishment of 15 years in prison.
The head of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office, Myroslav Patskan, emphasized during the court debates: “The mother, who should have been protecting her child, committed a terrible crime together with her partner against her own child. In the court debates, I requested the highest measure of punishment – life imprisonment for both defendants.”
It is worth noting that both were detained in March 2023, when the 12-year-old child decided to tell law enforcement about the horrors of their "family" life. Since then, the suspects have been held in custody without alternative.
The previously convicted stepfather was found guilty of repeatedly raping a minor, intentionally possessing child pornography, and domestic violence (part 4, 6 of Article 152, part 1 of Article 301-1, Article 126-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The mother was found guilty of repeatedly raping the child, as well as intentionally possessing, producing, distributing, and coercing the minor to participate in the creation of child pornography (part 4, 6 of Article 152, part 1, 3, 4 of Article 301-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
For the totality of crimes, by the verdict of the Tyachiv District Court, the man was sentenced to the highest measure of punishment - life imprisonment. The female defendant was sentenced to 15 years in prison; however, the prosecution will demand life imprisonment for the mother as well in the appeal. In addition, the convicted must pay the victim 1 million hryvnias each for moral damages.
Until the verdict of the Tyachiv District Court takes legal effect, they will continue to be held in custody without alternative.
The mother has been deprived of parental rights concerning the victim and her younger daughter. Currently, the children live with their biological father, a former military man who was defending the country at that time. After being removed from the previous family, the child underwent a rehabilitation assistance program.
