The Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of the Zhytomyr Regional Prosecutor's Office, with the participation of territorial units of the National Police of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Bureau of Investigation, and the State Environmental Inspectorate, uncovered a number of officials in the forestry sector, owners of economic entities, and an illegal logger, who caused damages to the state exceeding 3.6 million UAH. Nine individuals have been notified of suspicion, including:

- The current and former forester, the assistant forester of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine," and two representatives of companies that sold business timber to entrepreneurs under the guise of selling firewood to the population, which led to the embezzlement of state enterprise funds amounting to 772 thousand UAH; 

- The forester of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine," who carried out illegal logging of oak trees in a forest area under protection, causing damage of 298 thousand UAH;

- A resident of the northern region of the oblast, who systematically logged oak trees in the forest plantations of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia," resulting in damages of 900 thousand UAH;

- The head of an economic entity, who used forged official documents for the smuggling of prohibited timber worth 738 thousand UAH out of the country;

- The head of an economic entity, who extracted groundwater on his own plot without a special permit and illegally sold it to the population, causing environmental damage of 900 thousand UAH.

Depending on the committed crimes, their actions have been qualified under Part 3 of Article 201-1, Part 3 of Article 240, Part 4 of Article 246, and Parts 1 and 4 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

During the searches of the suspects, timber, tags for marking timber, and cash were seized.

Currently, the issue of choosing preventive measures for them is being resolved.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
