The most serious crimes against children are under the personal control of the heads of regional prosecutors

When crime destroys the very idea of humanity, society expects the strictest reaction of the state. Especially when it comes to crimes against children. That is why the Prosecutor General insists that the heads of Regional Prosecutor's Offices and their deputies should personally maintain public prosecution in the most serious criminal proceedings, where the victims were minors, to ensure justice.

To carry out the order, the heads of Regional Prosecutor's Offices and their deputies personally ensure the maintenance of public prosecution in criminal proceedings, directly participate in court proceedings. In addition, a pre-trial investigation is carried out under their procedural supervision, and in certain proceedings, regional prosecutors are senior prosecutors to lead the group of prosecutors.

In the recent period alone, the heads of Regional Prosecutor's Offices have taken part in the consideration of more than a hundred cases of premeditated murder, rape and other particularly serious crimes against children. In six proceedings, the courts have already passed convictions. Currently, there are 41 other proceedings in this category in the courts, and in each the Prosecutor's Office defends the state's position at the highest level.

Taking into account the position of prosecutors, the courts imposed the harshest sentences on persons guilty of sexual violence against children. For example:

In Kharkiv, a father who raped his own daughter for two years was sentenced to life imprisonment.

In Kyiv, a 35-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for molestation and engaging in intimate relationships with an 11-year-old child for a long period of time.

Convicted in Vinnytsia region:

- the father of a minor girl, who repeatedly committed her rape with the use of physical and psychological violence.

- a man who committed sexual violence against his young niece.

After the specified verdicts enter into force, information about the accused will be entered into the Unified Register of Persons Convicted of Crimes Against Sexual Freedom and Sexual Inviolability of a Minor.

Also in the Sumy region, upon the public accusation by the deputy head of the Sumy District Prosecutor's Office, a woman was convicted of attempting to sell her own baby. After giving birth to the child, a 35-year-old resident of the region agreed to hand over the baby to a resident of the Bilopillya community. She valued her child at USD 30 thousand.

Separately, the heads of the Regional Prosecutor’s Offices and their deputies personally carry out procedural supervision in criminal proceedings relating to premeditated murder, rapes and other serious crimes against children.

166 such proceedings are under their control, of which 65 are personally with regional prosecutors.

Only recently:

• the head of the Volyn Regional Prosecutor's Office notified of suspicion the man who repeatedly raped the 13-year-old daughter of his roommate;

• the deputy head of the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office notified of suspicion a 57-year-old resident of Zhmerynka district, who repeatedly raped his young granddaughter;

• the acting head of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office notified of suspicion three residents of Kyiv for repeated crimes of a sexual nature against young girls, the youngest of whom was only 8 years old;

• the head of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office sent an indictment to the court against a 44-year-old man who raped a 13-year-old girl with violence. He faces up to 15 years in prison;

• under the procedural supervision of the head of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, suspicion was served to a deputy of the village council, who hit a minor child while intoxicated. The perpetrator has been taken into custody;

• under the procedural supervision of the head of the Kirovohrad Regional Prosecutor's Office, suspicion was served to a man who, violating traffic rules, caused a road accident with the death of two children. He was remanded in custody without bail.

No crime against a child will remain uninvestigated, and the guilty will be punished fairly. This is not only the duty of the entire law enforcement system, but also a matter of our shared responsibility to the future.
