Tried to transport smuggled goods worth almost 30 million from the EU: a resident of a village in the Lviv region is suspected

					30.10.2025
Under the procedural guidance of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office, the legal qualification of the criminal offense was changed for a resident of the Yavoriv district based on the results of a commodity examination, as well as the previously reported suspicion. In addition to the previously charged part 2 of Article 201-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (smuggling), the actions of the suspect were qualified under part 2 of Article 201-4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – smuggling of excise goods.
In early August 2025, the man attempted to smuggle products from Poland into Ukraine, specifically premium phones of well-known brands and elite perfume products.
To avoid declaration and payment of customs duties, the man chose the "green corridor" when crossing the border.
The smuggled products were hidden in the cargo compartment of a minibus — in cardboard boxes that previously contained sausage products. To mask them, they were placed under similar boxes that contained genuine meat products.
In addition to the smuggled electronics and perfumes, the boxes contained liquids for electronic cigarettes — this was confirmed by the commodity examination.
In the hideout discovered by border guards during the inspection of the vehicle, more than 400 mobile phones, nearly 3,500 bottles of perfume products from well-known brands and testers for them, 19,500 bottles of liquids for electronic cigarettes, as well as several units of small household appliances were found.
The estimated value of the seized electronics and perfumes is almost 17 million UAH, and the liquids for "e-cigarettes" exceed 12 million UAH.
The recently obtained results of the commodity examination became the basis for changing the legal qualification of the criminal offense. In addition to the previously charged part 2 of Article 201-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (smuggling), the actions of the suspect were qualified under part 2 of Article 201-4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – smuggling of excise goods.
The seized goods and the vehicle have been placed under arrest.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security in the Lviv region, with operational support from the 7th Border Guard Detachment of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a court verdict.
