Natalya Makhovska: "Victory is our common path to justice"

Natalia Makhovska is a staff sergeant of the 3rd category of the 93rd Anti-Tank Battalion of the 11th Army Corps. She establishes connections between the army and civilians: interacts with local authorities and organizations, coordinates humanitarian aid, and helps servicemen and their families resolve legal issues.

Before the invasion, Natalia worked for over 30 years as the chief accountant of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor's Office and says that her work experience has proven invaluable for her service in the military.

“The ability to communicate with people in various emotional states without losing composure helps to find understanding with servicemen and the families of those who are missing or have died.”

In April 2022, Natalia chose the military:

“I understood that our task now is to do everything to protect the country and statehood for the children who will live here. We needed to help the army endure.”

According to the defender, the Armed Forces of Ukraine needed equipment, uniforms, medications, and even food. Colleagues from the prosecutor's office came to assist the battalion.

“With gratitude and pride, I can say that the first drone of our combined battalion in 2022 was purchased with funds from the trade union of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor's Office. We are constantly in touch and rejoice in our rare meetings,” shared the defender.

Today, the 93rd Anti-Tank Battalion is holding the defense in the Zaporizhzhia direction.

Among Natalia's duties is particularly difficult work — accompanying fallen defenders. Her group interacts with the morgue, the prosecutor's office, the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, communicates with the families of the deceased, and processes a large package of documents.

“This is emotionally exhausting work,” acknowledges Natalia.

In difficult moments, she is supported by a simple thought: “You don’t have much time to waste on bad thoughts.”

“Victory is our common path to the triumph of justice. Unfortunately, it is currently being written in blood, broken bodies, souls, and families.”

Natalia gratefully recalls the support and assistance of her colleagues from the Zaporizhzhia Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.

After victory, the defender dreams of returning to the prosecutor's office: she remembers the warm and supportive team.

“The military experience will probably change my perspective on many things, but even now I appreciate even more how self-organized and responsible we are there.”

When asked about awards, Natalia responds briefly: I have not been nominated for state awards. The key thing is the gratitude of the people I was able to help.”

The Office of the Prosecutor General thanks everyone who chooses to fight for the freedom of the state every day.
