Prosecutors of the Prosecutor General's Office notified the official of the Odesa Customs of the State Customs Service of Ukraine of suspicion for extortion and receiving an illegal benefit.

According to the investigation, the suspect, taking advantage of her official position, demanded and received more than 270 thousand hryvnias from the representative of two companies. Instead, she promised not to take measures to maximize fines for violations of customs legislation.

On this fact, on August 7, the customs official was served with suspicion under part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — receiving an illegal benefit combined with its extortion.

On August 8, the court chose a preventive measure for her in the form of detention with the determination of the amount of bail in the amount of UAH 787,000.

The pre-trial investigation is carried out by investigators of the Main Investigative Department of the SBI with operational support from the Office of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odesa region.

Note: according to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
