Illegal felling for almost UAH 9 million: two forestry officials will be tried in Lviv

Prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office have sent indictments to the court regarding two officials of the state forestry enterprise. They are accused of exceeding their official powers as law enforcement officers and illegal logging, which caused severe consequences (part 3 of article 365, part 4 of article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, during 2020–2022, the suspects, taking turns performing the duties of the forestry director, unjustifiably issued logging tickets.

This allowed them to organize illegal transformation logging (complex logging conducted for the gradual change of homogeneous forest stands to multi-layered) in age-diverse and mixed stands.

As a result of the illegal actions of the law enforcement officers, at least 2,232 trees were destroyed. The environmental damage amounts to nearly 9 million UAH.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigation located in Lviv.

Note: according to article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by law and confirmed by a guilty verdict of the court.
