The Prosecutor General's Office protected the Museum in Pirogov from chaotic construction

The Office of the Prosecutor General has ensured the restoration of protective zones around the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine in Pirohiv.

Previously, the court satisfied the prosecutor's claim and recognized the order of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine, which reduced the protective zones of the Museum, as illegal. In accordance with this decision, a new order dated October 12, 2025, No. 849 has been issued, which approves the scientific and project documentation defining the boundaries and modes of use of the territories and protection zones of the monuments.

This means that the adjacent lands around Pirohiv are now protected from chaotic development that could disrupt the harmony of the natural landscape, harm the museum exhibition, or destroy wooden architectural monuments from the 16th to the 20th centuries.

The museum in Pirohiv is one of the largest open-air ethnographic museums in Europe, housing over two hundred authentic structures from various regions of Ukraine. The restoration of the protective zones guarantees the preservation of this space as part of the national and world cultural heritage.

As a result of the Office of the Prosecutor General's lawsuit, the implementation of this court decision has become the final stage of a long struggle for the preservation of the unique landscape and the integrity of the museum exhibition around the open-air Museum,” noted the prosecutor of the Department of Representation of State Interests in Court.
