Transportation to Romania for USD 14,000 - a resident of Ternopil Oblast is suspected

Under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Ternopil Regional Prosecutor's Office, a resident of one of the villages in the region has been notified of suspicion for organizing the illegal transportation of a person across the state border of Ukraine, as well as for assisting in its commission through advice and instructions, committed for mercenary motives (Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, the man promised to help a conscript cross the border with Romania outside of official checkpoints for 14,000 USD. The conscript was to transfer the money to the man through an intermediary.

The suspect provided instructions and advice on preparing for the crossing and also took it upon himself to personally deliver the "client" to the neighboring region.

On January 7, 2025, he picked up the man from Ternopil and drove him to a hotel in the Chernivtsi region, bypassing the checkpoints. While they were on the road, the suspect's wife received the agreed sum of money.

The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure for him is being resolved.

The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to nine years with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police in the Ternopil region with operational support from the Security Service of Ukraine in the region and the migration police of the National Police.

Note: according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a lawful manner and established by a guilty verdict of the court.
