Violation of traffic safety rules led to the death of a female passenger: a man will be tried in Zhytomyr Oblast

Prosecutors of the Zhytomyr Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Defense Sector have sent an indictment to the court against a man for violating traffic safety rules while under the influence of alcohol, which resulted in the death of the victim (Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The accused faces imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years, along with a ban on driving vehicles for a period of 5 to 10 years.

According to the investigation, in July 2025, within the city of Zhytomyr, a law enforcement officer, driving a "Skoda Octavia" while intoxicated, lost control, drove onto the sidewalk, and collided with a reinforced concrete support.

There were three passengers in the car, including two minors. As a result of the injuries sustained in the accident, a 16-year-old girl died in the hospital. The other passengers suffered serious and moderate bodily injuries.

Since the beginning of the pre-trial investigation and up to the present, the man has been subjected to a preventive measure in the form of detention without the possibility of bail.

The pre-trial investigation and operational support were carried out by the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations located in the city of Khmelnytskyi.
