The suspicion of the head of the pre -trial detention center № 2 in Taganrog of the Rostov region was reported, who organized torture the journalist Victoria Roshchina

It has been established that the pre-trial detention center No. 2 in Taganrog, Rostov region, organized a system of repressive treatment of detained citizens of Ukraine, including civilians. Among the victims is the well-known Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roschyna. She was detained by the Russian military in the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region and transferred to this detention center.

There, she was subjected to systemic torture, beatings, humiliation, threats, severe restrictions on access to medical care, drinking water, and food. In addition, physical punishment and psychological pressure were applied to her, demanding cooperation with the administration of the institution.

During the pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings regarding the illegal deprivation of liberty, torture, and murder of Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roschyna on the territory of the Russian Federation (under parts 1, 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), it was established that the head of pre-trial detention center No. 2 in Taganrog organized the commission of the aforementioned crimes.

Under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office, the individual involved was notified of suspicion (in absentia) under part 2 of Art. 28, part 1 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — ill-treatment of the civilian population committed by a group of persons following a prior conspiracy.

As the prosecutors noted, the suspect was aware that the journalist was a civilian, did not participate in the armed conflict, and had the appropriate status guaranteed to her by international humanitarian law, but deliberately violated the norms of the Geneva Convention and other international treaties.

He faces up to 12 years in prison for the crimes he committed.

The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine. Currently, all individuals involved in crimes against the Ukrainian journalist are being identified.
