A serviceman of the Russian Federation has been found guilty of violating the laws and customs of war, committed in conspiracy by a group of individuals (part 2 of article 28, part 1 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and has been sentenced in absentia to 12 years of imprisonment.

In February 2022, during the temporary occupation of the village of Staryi Bykiv in the Nizhyn district, the accused, together with other servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces, detained and imprisoned six civilian men at their temporary location. The occupiers wanted to find out the whereabouts of the Defense Forces and information about local residents who were assisting them. During the detention, the men were threatened with firearms.

On the same day, the occupiers executed all the victims. Local residents discovered their bodies the next morning. Law enforcement is investigating the fact of the intentional murder of civilians. The Russian servicemen involved in the committed crimes are being identified.

The special pre-trial investigation and operational support were carried out by employees of the Nizhyn District Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Chernihiv region.
